The Journey – Enoch

From Adam’s lineage through Seth, Enoch descends…

Genesis 5:21-24 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch WALKED WITH GOD 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. Enoch WALKED WITH GOD; then he was no more, because God took him away.

It is deduced that the birth of Methuselah marked a significant event in Enoch’s life, for after that Enoch walked with God.

Was there a major event that caused you to choose to walk with God? Do you remember it daily?

Enoch = follower, or dedicated one
Methuselah = man of the dart
Walk with God = to live a faithful life of obedience

Because of Adam’s choice to disobey God and eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the curse and rule of disobedience and death has been released upon humanity.

Enoch is the first man not to experience death since the curse of death began. WHY? Because he WALKED WITH GOD.

Hebrews 11:5-6 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that He exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Those who daily walk with God, the sentence of death has been swallowed up in the victory of Christ in you the hope of glory!

1 Corinthians 15:20-22 [NLT] Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of those who have died. So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection of the dead has begun through another man. Just as everyone dies because we belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.

1 Corinthians 15:54-57 [NLT] When our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”

For sin is the sting that results in death, and the Law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.
