A Clear and Present Ethos

John 17:17 Sanctify them by the truth; your Word is truth.

Definition: the unified beliefs underlining and giving rise to attitudes and actions by a group that when judged, those beliefs should be found to be equal and true for everyone.

Matthew 22:37-40 “You shall love the Lord you God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments, depend the whole Law and the prophets.”

Christian beliefs aim to describe the way things are in God’s view. It is concerned to tell the truth in order that others may agree and act upon that belief. It is the expression of a caring and responsible faith, a faith prepared to give an account for the way one lives. It is a passionate concern that our attitudes and actions, our hopes an d fears, are a right response toward the One true God, giving witness to His truth in our life!

“Be sure of the truth you follow, coupled with an ability to express it consistently and intelligently [using words if necessary], then you will make followers!”

James 1:22-25 Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect Law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it – he will be blessed in what he does.

Matthew 24:12-14 And because lawlessness is increased , most people’s love WILL grow cold. But the one who ENDURES to the end, he WILL be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a witness to all the nations, and THEN the end will come.
