Careful speech is shaped by God’s INFLUENCE.
James 3:2 We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.
Careful speech increases with consistent TRAINING.
James 3:13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
Careful speech is accented by PRAISE not CURSING.
James 3:9-10 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.
Careful speech that reveals God’s wisdom is PURE, PEACE-LOVING CONSIDERATE, SUBMISSIVE, full of MERCY and good FRUIT, IMPARTIAL, and SINCERE.
Jesus said, “For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings up evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give an account on the Day of Judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” – Matthew 12:34-37
