Genesis 29:1-14
Hope = Anticipation of a favorable outcome under God’s guidance. A confidence in what God did for us in the past guarantees our participation in what He will do in the future.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it.
Jacob’s hope was realized when he came to the well in Haran, his travels spurred on by his dream at Bethel.
God must be the ultimate ground and object of all hope.
Colossians 1:3-23
Hope is based on the fact that God raised His Son from the dead! In the end, He will do the same for all who believe in the Name of His Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ. Hope centers on the resurrection and the second coming of Christ.
We live in hope because:
*Of what God did in the resurrection. 1 Peter 1:3-16
*Of faith in the Holy Spirit. Romans 5:1-11
*It is a gift of God. Hebrews 6:9-20
Titus 3:4-5 When the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by His Grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
