Luke 11:1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
Jesus’ spiritual empowerment for ministry to others came from personal time in prayer. Since prayer was the source for Jesus and the disciples, then what about me, and the church?
The disciples sensed the need to ask Jesus for the knowledge of how to talk with God, do we? Lord, teach us to pray!
Andrew Murray – Prayer is so simple that children can do it; and yet the highest and holiest work for man to undertake!
C.H. Surgeon, If prayer were of the lips alone, we should only need breathe in our nostrils to pray. If prayer were of the desires alone, even natural men easily feel many excellent desires. However, when prayer becomes a spiritual desire, the spiritual fellowship of the human spirit with the God’s Spirit, then the Holy Spirit Himself must be present all through it to help infirmity and give life and power, or else true prayer will never be presented. The thing offered to God will wear the name and have the form, but the inner life of prayer will be far from it. And when we pray, we must have the presence of the One who alone can take us through the veil of intimacy revealing the will of the living God in any and every matter.
