Matthew 21:5, 8-27
Jesus arrives in Jerusalem as prophesied by Zechariah; “See your KING comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey.”
-9 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is HE who comes in the Name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”
-11 Jerusalem stirred by the procession asks, “Who is this?” The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the PROPHET from Nazareth in Galilee.”
-13 Jesus continues to the Temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the benches of those selling doves. “It is written,” He said to them, “My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers.” Thus asserting himself as PRIEST over God’s Temple and he heals the sick and blind.
-27 Jesus enters the Temple courts and while He was teaching, the chief priests and elders came to him. “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?” Jesus replied, “I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. John’s baptism, where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or from men?” They answered, “We don’t know.” So, Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.” Jesus establishes his position as SON OF GOD.
